Make the smart decision; choose portable storage

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

Are you hoping to rid your house of its overwhelming clutter? Are you dreading the thought of traditional storage facilities and have been searching for other options? If you answered yes to either of these questions, portable storage will be the perfect solution for you and your storage needs.

There is nothing worse in a home than clutter. Clutter can transform your home from a relaxing haven into a junk filled nightmare. Thankfully for you, portable storage will provide you with the opportunity to rid your house of its clutter, reclaiming your relaxing haven.

Traditional storage comes with many cumbersome responsibilities. The process of moving your possessions into a traditional storage facility is a long and arduous journey; renting a moving truck, loading the truck, driving the huge moving truck to the storage facility, unloading the truck, and returning the truck at a specific time are just some of the frustrations you will be forced to endure. This lengthy process makes the already stressful task of moving your possessions into storage that much more stressful.

Thankfully for you, portable storage is a convenient alternative to traditional storage methods. Portable storage will provide you with the ease and convenience you are craving. Driving a cumbersome moving truck will never be a concern of yours when you choose portable storage. Instead, you can leave the hard work to your storage provider. Your storage provider will personally deliver your portable storage unit to your home. Once your storage unit is delivered, it is up to you to complete the loading process. Believe it or not, your work is done after you load your storage unit.

How can your work possibly be done at this point? What happens with the storage unit? Once you have completely loaded your unit, simply give your portable storage provider a call. You can sit back and relax while your storage unit provider personally picks up the storage unit from your home. Your portable storage unit will be taken to your provider’s facility where it will be securely stored until you are ready for its delivery.

Traditionally, emptying your storage unit is a long and arduous process filled with cumbersome moving trucks and stressful circumstances. Thankfully for you, unloading your portable storage unit will be almost effortless. When you pick up the telephone and let us know you are ready for your portable storage unit to be delivered, your portable storage provider will do the hard work for you; while you are relaxing, your unit will arrive at your home.

Another reason to choose portable storage is the monetary savings you will reap. Renting a moving truck will be a necessity when you choose conventional storage facilities. The hidden fees associated with moving trucks can pile up, multiplying the costs of the initially inexpensive truck rental fee. You will also be required to return your truck at a specific time when you rent a moving truck. However, last minute emergencies can occur, disrupting your moving process and postponing the time in which you can return the truck; this will result in paying high penalties. Unlike moving trucks, you will not be penalized for keeping your portable storage unit if the unloading process takes longer than originally expected. Avoid costly penalties when you choose portable storage.

Make the best decision; choose portable storage.

Surviving Moving Day

Friday, October 16th, 2009

Moving is extremely high in stress, and moving day is the most high stress part of any move. However, taking care of a few details in advance can make moving day much less of a strain. Here are three battle tested moving tips that will make moving day far more bearable.

Make a survival kit.

On the day you move out, you will have one last pile of things to pack: all the sheets and blankets, toiletries, cups and dishes, and sundry small objects (your cell phone recharger, alarm clock, French press, favorite coffee) you were using right to the end. You will have the urge to cram it into any half packed moving boxes you still have open. Resist it! All the things you needed when you were finished packing your old house will be the things you will need most as you unpack in the new house. Instead of forcing yourself to dig through half a dozen moving boxes to find the things you need, pack all your moving essentials into their own boxes. Write “Moving Kit” or “Open First” on the boxes. When you unpack, make sure they go into their own room and are not buried by a stack of other boxes. The first several days at your new home will be easier when you have your moving survival kit ready to use right away.

Pack a lunch.

It is too easy to spend moving day scrounging for something remotely foodlike in convenience stores and fast food drive throughs. By the end of the day, everyone is overcaffeinated, full of starch and grease, and cranky. To prevent that, spend the night before packing ready to go meals that do not need reheating. Even something as simple as a ham sandwich and a pudding cup can make an incredible difference in your and your moving companion’s moods.

Be ready to camp out in your house for a few days.

You were foresighted and had all the utilities connected a week in advance. When you move in, you expect everything, from the electricity to the gas to the phone and cable service, to be working. It never works out that way. The phone company thinks you moved to Middleton, not Mettleton, or the electric company took down the wrong charge card information, or the gas company needs you to be at home so the meter reader can get into the basement. Get ready to meet these little crises in advance. Pack flashlights, candles, matches, and warm bedding where they will be easy to find in your moving kit, fully charge your cell phone before you leave the old house, and pack a stash of food that does not need to be heated. Make a list of all your utilities’ phone numbers and your account information so that when you find that something has not been turned on, you can get it taken care of right away.

Using Storage and Moving Containers

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

Storage and moving containers are a great way to not only move house, but store your possessions. Although they are often advertised primarily as moving containers, storage and moving containers are, as the name suggests, perfect for storing possessions without the bother of going to and from the storage unit yourself.

How can I use moving containers as storage?

You choose a storage container company and order the size of container you will need. The company’s truck will drop off the container at your house. When you have filled it, arrange for pickup with a phone call to the company. The company keeps the filled container at their warehouse until you are ready for them to redeliver it. Most customers want their storage and moving containers delivered to a new address, but the company will deliver to any address you specify, and will not think anything of it if you request that the container be delivered to the same address it was initially delivered to.

What types of belongings are storage and moving containers optimal for storing?

Possessions you do not plan to need for a while and will not need to retrieve on short notice are best for storage containers. You will probably be able to visit the company’s warehouse to access your storage container, but they will likely need two to three days’ notice so they can fetch the container from its position in a stack of other containers.

Can I fill a storage and moving container in the same way that I would fill a storage cube in a warehouse?

Unlike storage units, storage containers are picked up repeatedly, shifted, and even slightly tipped over the course of their use. Therefore, you will need to pack a storage container just like you would pack a moving container. Pack from the bottom up, not from the back forward, and make sure there is no space between boxes or any room for items to shift and break inside boxes. If you do not pack the entire container solid, rope down your belongings to prevent them from rolling about if the container is tipped slightly.

Storage and moving containers allow you to skip the hassle of wasting a day renting a van, filling it, driving it to the storage facility, unloading it, and returning the van. If you need to save time as well as make extra space in your house, consider ordering a storage container for yourself.
